We have ministry position openings and volunteer opportunities submitted from various partners and friends from around the world.

Hiring: Minister for Children & Youth
15 hours/week

The Minister for Children & Youth is a part-time ministry position serving the congregation, mission, and vision of First Baptist Church in Jamaica Plain. Working collaboratively with the pastoral team, this position will oversee and organize Christian formation and congregational care programs for children and youth.

Responsibilities of this role include:
–Design and implement ongoing formation programs to develop and nurture the talents, skills and spiritual gifts of children & youth.
–Identify ways to integrate children & youth into all activities of church life with the goal of equipping them to lead and serve here, now, and in the future.
–Identify, recruit and resource teachers and other volunteers for regular educational programs.
–Responsible to lead and/or resource Sunday morning formation classes for children and youth, monthly Kids Night Out program, as well as other programs.
–Organize and support programs of the church’s nonprofit, the Centre for Faith, Art, & Justice, for young people in the community. (e.g. First Friday Open Mic)
–Collaborate closely with other pastors and worship leaders on Sunday services.
–Work with the Pastoral Team to provide pastoral care to strengthen relationships.

SKILLS/REQUIREMENTS:
–Christian faith with an ecumenical approach to ministry (Baptist identity a plus).
–Sunday availability and weekend flexibility
–Progressive theology that welcomes and affirms all people.
–Experience working or volunteering in urban ministry settings.
–Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
–Strong organizational and communication skills in various mediums including social media.
–Strong writing and speaking abilities.
–A desire to minister alongside a diverse community of believers, in a diverse neighborhood.

Compensation:
20 – 25K annual salary

FULL-TIME OFFICE ADMINISTRATOR, FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH IN JAMAICA PLAIN, MASSACHUSETTS 

The First Baptist Church in Jamaica Plain is seeking an Office Administrator to support and facilitate the ministry and administration of the church. The First Baptist Church JP consists of varied and vibrant ministries for adults, children and youth. We are looking for a team player with a positive outlook to embrace and affirm the church’s mission. A background in the Baptist church, or any Christian church, is not required. 

The Office Administrator serves the operation and administration of the church. This position serves a key role as the primary point of contact between the church and community partners and groups. Duties include managing daily business and administration, church building use schedules, inspections, maintenance, and staffing, phone calls and correspondence (e-mail, letter, packages etc.), banking and bookkeeping, and support of pastoral staff. The Office Administrator reports to the Executive Pastor and works collaboratively to ensure successful accomplishment of church goals.

Responsibilities of this role include:
–Support the mission and vision of the church by helping to create a welcoming, hospitable, and professional atmosphere for all staff, members, volunteers, partners, and guests of the First Baptist Church in Jamaica Plain
–Keep updated records and databases with financial, congregational, and other data
–Maintain orderliness of office, filing systems, stocks of office supplies, and place orders when necessary for Church and Centre programs
–Manage weekly accounts payable and accounts receivable 
–Provide timely and accurate invoicing to vendors and/or tenants 
–Assist with maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local codes, regulations and ordinances relevant to all operations of the First Baptist Church in Jamaica Plain
–Assist pastoral team with the creation and distribution of publications and mailings, including but not limited to the weekly bulletin, monthly e-newsletter, and various outreach documents
–Work with Executive Pastor to conduct a monthly reconciliation of bank accounts and generate monthly financial reports, ensure compliance with local and federal ordinances, and evaluate the organization’s performance to improve results and efficiency

SKILLS/REQUIREMENTS:
–Competency with using finance and accounting software such as QuickBooks and other CRM software 
–Strong written and oral communication skills (Spanish language a plus)
–Strong administrative and computer skills, including: word processing, spreadsheet creation, and design for publication
–Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
–Ability to balance and prioritize many projects simultaneously
–Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
–Demonstrated ability to coordinate and interact with diverse staff, members, and volunteers

Licenses, Registrations, and Certificates:  Serv Safe and Massachusetts Allergen Awareness certification 

COMPENSATION:
$48,000 – 53,000 annually
