The Alliance is proud to endorse 150 chaplains and pastoral counselors.

We owe a great debt of gratitude to the folks that worked to set up the Endorsement program for the Alliance of Baptists. The first chaplains were endorsed by the Alliance during 1999. Over the first eight years of the endorsement program the endorsing council was chaired by Karen Moore, Jay Foster, Jim Hightower, Beth Jackson-Jordan and Ann Charlescraft. These volunteers put in hours and hours of work to endorse chaplains and pastoral counselors who wanted to be connected with their denominational and theological home!

In 2007, Chris Copeland was hired and part of his new job description was endorsement.  Endorser responsibilities moved from a volunteer position to an Alliance staff position. Chris brought new energy and ideas to staff about how we could be support to chaplains and pastoral counselors.

Alliance of Baptists’ chaplains, pastoral counselors, and CPE Supervisors are leaders in their respective fields. Beginning in 2018 the president of the ACPE (Association for Clinical Pastoral Education) will be Amy Greene. Amy is an Alliance-endorsed chaplain and currently serves as the Director of Spiritual Care at Cleveland Clinic.

Currently, Tere Canzoneri is vice president for American Association of Pastoral Counselors (AAPC) and will be chair beginning 2018. Tere is an Alliance-endorsed pastoral counselor in Atlanta. Russell Davis is currently chair of COMISS and Karen Ballard is chair-elect of COMISS.  COMISS is a network on ministry in specialized settings. Russell is Professor and Chair, Department of Patient Counseling at VCU in Charlottesville, VA and Karen is Director of Chaplaincy Services at Children’s Hospital in Akron, Ohio.
