(Cleveland, OH) The United Church Insurance Association, dba Insurance Board, recently announced its association with the Alliance of Baptists. The Alliance, an affiliation of more than 100 Baptist congregations, has been in official conversation with the United Church of Christ since the mid-nineties.
Baptists, and the churches that formed the United Church of Christ, have shared a close and, at times, conflicted history. This same history that caused the Congregationalists and Baptists to part in the 17th century, also afforded a more recent opportunity for both faith traditions to reconnect their histories and explore their shared biblical and theological convictions.
"I am pleased to welcome the Alliance of Baptists into the Insurance Board program," states Timothy Harris, President and CEO of the Insurance Board. "We were approached by the Alliance of Baptists earlier this year to consider an opportunity to partner with and serve Alliance communities. The historical context of the relationship and shared faith convictions with the UCC, make them a natural fit for our program."
Rev. Dr. Michael D. Castle, President, Alliance of Baptists says: "I am so grateful to the Insurance Board staff and board for welcoming the Alliance of Baptists as a partner organization. The Alliance of Baptists is a small and growing network of progressive churches and individuals who share so much in common with the other partners of the Insurance Board." He continues, "As a pastor of a church that is both United Church of Christ and Alliance of Baptists, I have experienced first-hand the quality of the Insurance Board's service and work. It just made sense to seek a partnership instead of trying to reinvent the wheel for ourselves. And it just feels right to work in partnership rather than isolation! I am excited to be able to share the Insurance Board as a great resource and important tool for ministry among our Alliance of Baptists family."
Alliance of Baptists churches are serviced by Jennifer Perri, Insurance Board's Director of Member Services. She can be reached by calling 877-597-8247 or emailing jperri@InsuranceBoard.org
