FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Alliance of Baptists Celebrates 30th Anniversary, Presents Heart of the Alliance Award

RALEIGH—30 years ago the Alliance of Baptists was birthed and the 33 founders gathered to affirm the great “yes” of God’s love for all people. On this day and with this spirit, the Alliance gathered to celebrate all that has been and all that will be.

On Friday, April 28, the Alliance marked the 30th anniversary and all that is to be with a dinner and celebration. James Lamkin, pastor at Northside Drive Baptist Church, Atlanta who served as the master of ceremonies for the evening reflected, “If there's a line that tells the 30-year history of the Alliance, it is: There's room at the table for everyone. That is our anniversary party theme and the song to which the Alliance dances!"

At the special event, the Alliance presented the “Heart of the Alliance Award” to Anita and David Massengill. The Massengills are members are congregational partner, Metro Baptist Church, New York and long-time supporters. They have both served on the board of directors, David just finishing his term at the board meeting this week. He also served as the chair of the communications committee of the board.

Alliance president Mike Castle said, “David and Anita Massengill have been an integral and intimate part of all things Alliance. They have, with joy, contributed their friendship, their financial resources and their leadership to support and strengthen the work of the Alliance since our founding. They have loved the Alliance of Baptists well and it is fitting they were awarded the Heart of the Alliance distinction.”

The evening included a performance from singer-songwriter Kate Campbell where she highlighted song of justice, closing with the theme of the evening, “There is Room at the Table for Everyone.”
