Alliance to Host Protest & Press Conference at Annual Gathering
by Mike Castle, president of the Alliance of Baptists
One of our core Baptist beliefs is the power of dissent. But it is never dissent for the sake of dissent. We dissent when we sense that the always and ever expansive justice-love of God has been violated.
As we gather as Alliance of Baptists at Pullen Memorial Baptist Church, Raleigh, N.C., April 28-30, we will practice some good old Baptist dissent. We gather to proclaim the truth of God's love for all people and to stand against the proliferation of unjust policies coming out of Washington, D.C., and to denounce that while HB-2 may have been repealed to appease moneyed interests, it does nothing to address the discrimination and harm directed at LGBTQIA people.
We invite you to join a protest and press conference on Friday, April 28 at 12p.m. on the steps of Pullen as part of our Annual Gathering. We will hear from William Barber, Nancy Petty, Ben Boswell, Maria Swearingen, Michael-Ray Mathews and myself.
You're invited to bring signs supporting the notion of protest as prayer, wear stoles and bring church signs so people know that there are Baptists around the world who proclaim the justice-love of God for all people.
