    ASSOCIATE PASTOR FOR FAITH FORMATION AND FAMILY LIFE

    FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH OF PALO ALTO, CA

    Introduction: In cooperation with the pastoral staff and lay leadership, the Associate Pastor for Faith Formation and Family Life will be responsible to work with both new and existing children, youth, young adults and families of FBCPA. Half of the time will be devoted to the development and maintenance of ministries of outreach, particularly to new families and young adults in our wider community; the other half to our existing children, youth and families.

    1.Community Outreach

    • Develops and monitors programs of community outreach that will draw new families and young adults to FBCPA
    • Ensures that programs and events of FBCPA are widely communicated beyond the local church community
    • Works with other staff and lay leadership to promote the growth of the congregation

    2.Faith Formation

    • Plans and monitors weekly programs in Christian Faith Formation for children, youth and families
    • Plans and monitors the participation of children and youth in worship services, coordinating with the Worship planners
    • Coordinates separate nursery care for babies and toddlers

    3.Family Life

    • Encourages the participation of families of current children and youth in the community life of FBCPA
    • Develops and creates opportunities for intergenerational ministry within the community of FBCPA

    Accountability:

    • Reports to the Pastor, the Church Council and the congregation, as appropriate
    • Works with the Pastor and the congregation’s lay leadership in the areas of Christian Faith Formation and church outreach and growth

    Qualifications: The job demands a dynamic, innovative person comfortable with taking initiative, problem solving and working as a team member.

    • M.Div. or equivalent preferred
    • Training and experience in both Church Growth and Faith Formation desired
    • Works effectively with volunteers, including recruitment, training and nurturing
    • Ability to work with minimal direction and prioritize use of time
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills
    • Background check will be required

    Compensation:

    Full-time, salaried position

    Compensation commensurate with education and experience
