2006 Convocation

Birmingham, Al

Jim Hopkins, pastor of Lakeshore Avenue Baptist Church in Oakland, CA, was elected president of the Alliance at the Annual Meeting April 22. Kristy Pullen from Ashburn, VA, was elected vice president.

First-time attendees

83 of the more than 300 people registered were attending their first Convocation. Read about some of them.

 

James Abbington, associate professor of music at Candler School of Theology in Atlanta, and former Alliance president John Ewing Roberts of Baltimore, MD. James led the Saturday night convocation worship service through a series of songs, many from the African-American tradition.

Stories of Faithfulness

Joyce Hollyday of Asheville, NC, weaved together stories of faithfulness to racial reconciliation in a three-part Covenant Address at the 2006 Convocation. She used portions of stories that were submitted by Alliance members.

Carl Gregg and Paul Richardson at a meeting of the Alliance's Communication and Development Committee on Thursday night, April 20 at Baptist Church of the Covenant in Birmingham. The board met April 20-21 prior to the 2006 Convocation. Carl is associate pastor at Northminster Church in Monroe, LA, and Paul is music professor at Samford University in Birmingham.
